The Zojirushi most people can actually justify: the same fuzzy-logic heat control as the famous Neuro Fuzzy, at meaningfully less money, with a couple of honest trades. Here is what the NS-TSC10 does well, where it gives ground, and how it sits against the Zojirushi range.

The Zojirushi advantage, at a lower price

The thing that makes a Zojirushi worth its money is fuzzy logic: a microcomputer that senses and adjusts the heat through the cook rather than running a fixed timer, which is why a good Zojirushi makes better rice than a cheap on/off cooker. The NS-TSC10 has that same Micom fuzzy-logic control as the benchmark NS-ZCC10 Neuro Fuzzy, for less money. It draws just 610 W — the lowest of any full-size rice cooker on this site, so the cheapest fuzzy-logic cooker to run — and it holds a 5.5-cup uncooked capacity, the same as its more famous sibling.

What it adds over the Neuro Fuzzy

Counterintuitively, the cheaper model gains a couple of functions. The NS-TSC10 includes steam and cake settings that the NS-ZCC10 does not, so it doubles a little more convincingly as a light multicooker — steam vegetables above rice, or bake a simple cake. If you want a rice cooker that occasionally does more than rice, this is the more flexible of the two Micom Zojirushis, and it does it while drawing less power.

The trade: made in China, not Japan

Here is the honest catch, and for some buyers it is the whole decision. The NS-TSC10 is made in China, where the Neuro Fuzzy is made in Japan. For a lot of people that is irrelevant — the fuzzy logic is the same and the rice is very good. But a real part of Zojirushi's appeal is specifically its Japanese manufacturing, and if that is why you are buying the brand, this is not the model that delivers it. We flag it here rather than bury it, because it is the single most common reason a buyer returns this cooker wishing they had spent up.

Where it gives ground on rice

The NS-TSC10 also has fewer specialized rice menus than the Neuro Fuzzy or the induction model — it covers the everyday settings but not the full spread of sushi, harder, softer and rinse-free options the pricier Zojirushis offer. And its interior nonstick pot will wear before the stainless pots in the multicooker section do, though that is true of essentially every rice cooker here. None of this makes the rice bad; it makes the NS-TSC10 the sensible-middle Zojirushi rather than the best one.
